Long Overdue!!!

Man, this is long overdue. Life has been hectic, since I last posted, my youngest has graduated.
We had a great day and a great party at home afterwards!!! Congratulations Larissa!!!

Thanks to all our wonderful Family and Friends, the day was a great success. We did miss Nichole and John they could not be here to join in the fun :-( We are looking forward to seeing them in October when Larissa and I take a vacation to visit them in New Haven..

Another big change at our house is the size of our "puppy" Gus.

He loves to chew anything in sight and Loves to eat my plants. I have since given all my plants to my mom and she brought them back to health. I go visit them!! My garden hose is now is 2 pieces instead of one? I thought it got ran over with the mower, nope it was the handy work of Gus!

I haven't gotten alot of knitting or weaving done. I have started a blanket to send along to college with Larissa. I'm only about 1/2 done.

A quick catch up on life at the Milk Ranch!! Yea, we are milking cows too!!

Can you believe it?????

I had a whole post done and it went somewhere in never land. So here we go again.

First off, I have exciting news from my youngest daughter. She will graduate this year and she has won a state essay contest and received $3000 cash. Yes I said CASH!!! All I have to say is I'm not sure her feet have hit the ground yet. She is one happy camper. Mom and Dad of course instantly said it goes towards college. The only thing she wants to buy is a set of golf clubs. What a way to end your senior year. Way to go Riss!!!

I've been cleaning out some stuff. I sold my spinning wheel this week. It's been sitting in a corner frowning at me for a year, wondering why I made it sit there unused. So I knew that my friends daughter wanted one. I contacted her and made the drop on Saturday. They both (the wheel and Miraha) were smiling ear to ear. She will give her a good home.

I have been weaving some. I put a warp for 2 scarves on. The first is done and the second started. I find the weaving very relaxing. I do however think the knitting machine (matilda)is throwing the loom (Lucy) dirty looks!

Till Next Time

Frozen Tundra!!

Yep, my butt is still frozen in SD. As a friend so nicely pointed out tonight I could move to CA where it's warm!! Guess I'm one of the weird people of the world. I don't mind the cold as long as I don't have to be out in it for extended periods of time. Like say Milking cows. Then I wouldn't like it so well...........

I've been crocheting on the Oat Coutoure, Seaside blouse. I'll try to get pictures up soon. I have the back done and starting the front. It's the first thing I've ever crocheted to wear. I've crocheted for years, doilys, dolls, etc but never clothing. So we'll see if it fits when I'm done!!

We had an addition to our "farm family". Our new to us black lab (she came to live with us about 1 1/2 mo ago.) Had puppies in the last two days. We found her last night and sadly only 1 puppy survived. She is pretty young so feel lucky to even have 1 survivor. He is a pretty golden pup. when he gets a little bigger I'll take pictures of him too. Hmmm. I'm thinking a good name would be artic, since he was born during the coldest time of the year!!

It's Cold!!!

It's winter in South Dakota
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty-five below.

Oh, how I love South Dakota
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut!

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave South Dakota
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground!

Keeping Busy...........

I've been making hats for charity. I joined a group called Save the Children, and have been crocheting baby hats. I have been using the ends of skeins. I also made a scarf for the special olympics but forgot to take a picture of it, what a wonderful feeling that was to send it off. I would love to see a picture of the athlete's and their scarves!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

Fun Felting

Wow, my friend Micaela and I went to a group Fiber Day in Sioux Falls this past Saturday. We learned to make animals or bugs in our case out of wool roving and a felting needle!! It was great. I have a million ideas running thru my brain. I want to try a flower and possibly a cow. I think they would be cool. Helen, the lady who taught us had some amazing animals along to show us.

Just what I need another new craft!!!!

Just Call Me Grace........................

So I was asked today at work if I could bowl. Well I bowled about 20 years ago and have my own ball, guess I could give it a try. There are a couple of the accountants that are part of Jr. Achivement and this is some sort of a fund raiser. So off I go to the bowling alley. Wait, first I went to the Chiropractor cause I've had a headache off and on for a week or so. I'm feeling better with no more headache and am ready for some fun. Are you ready for this?????????? They say "throw a few practice balls". I get my ball out and am telling myself this will be fine. You were a fairly good bowler, so what if it was 20 years and many pounds ago. I'm not quite sure what happen after that, except I was on all fours in the middle of the lane!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had just told one of the guys if I land of my ass you better not laugh at me. He asked if he could laugh with me, yea, no problem. Let's just leave it at this. We all had a good laugh, but it'll require another trip to the chriopractor in the morning. It's hell to get old...........

I think I better stick to knitting and crocheting......... :-)

This is what greeted me this morning. Not much snow, but icy roads and alot of wind!!!

IT'S SNOWING!!!

I'm telling the truth this time!!! The western 1/2 or our state is pretty much at a standstill I'm told. They have closed the interstate from Mitchell to the Wyoming border. Hopefully we won't see that kind of snow but it's really blowing.

What this does, is bring back memories of the ice storm of 2005. We were without power for 8 days. Now that's not alot of fun considering we live on a dairy farm. Being the weenie that I am I went to town the first chance I got and stayed with a friend and went to work!!! I did send home groceries and whiskey, so I got extra points for that!!! We have quite a few milkers in the neighborhood so they would start at one farm help that person milk, move the generator to the next farm and help that person and so on, and so on. The men were totally exhausted but that's what neighbors do for each other in the Dakota's.

So tomorrow morning if it's white here, I'll post a few pictures...... From the inside out of course!

I've Done It Again!!!

I'm not sure what comes over me when I see fiber related equipment and supplies in sale ads. It's like a sickness with me. I hear little voices that say "You really need that", "Buy Me!". Does that happen to any of you? I recently asked a group of friends if there was a 12 step program for this? They weren't much help, ENABLERS!!!! So I will soon have a new Knitting machine to add to my room. Man that room is shrinking!!
When the new addition to our family arrives I'll post pictures!!! Hmm now to name the new addition. I have Stella the garter carriage, Sophia the loom, Doodle (current machine) maybe Tillie for the new machine? :-)
Decisions, Decisions. I'm not sure I had this much trouble naming my kids!

What do Dreams Mean?????

I had a dream...... sound familar? Well, my dream was a little different. I have a cyber friend that I've been chatting with for some time. We've talked many times about how much trouble we could get into if we lived closer to each other. Last night I had a dream that when I got home from work she was sitting in my kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!! I woke up wondering where the hell did that come from???? Maybe some day we'll get to meet face to face. Hope so anyway!

Have a good day all

Is it Friday Yet?

What a long day........ but wow, I had this package to greet me when I got home!!!

My warping board came!!! Now to figure out how to use it!!

So I opened the box and put it together. Next thought.... I have to clean my fiber room so I can fit another toy into it.... I pushed, shoved, threw away, packed on shelves all the "stuff" laying around and I can at least walk into the room now. Here is a picture of the warping board put together.
Here is my loom. I've had it since July. I have dishtowels on it right now but hope to get them done in the near future!! Guess that's all for tonight.

Week-end of Dyeing!!

I was able to attend a week end dyeing party!! It was a great learning experience. I didn't realize how much work went into the preparation of the yarns and materials that are hand dyed. Let alone the different ways to make the designs in fabric. I dyed some cotton yarn, and other yarns that I had a home that were mixtures of cotton and wool. I bought some wool fabric and dyed it and hope to cut it into strips and use it to weave a rug or two.

Yippee My First Post!!

First I have to Thank my cyber friend Ariel for "nudging" me to do this. I've thought about it for a long time, and she gave me the umph to do it!!! THANKS ARIEL...........

I'm off to a session on Dyeing. When I've told people that they ask me if I'm going to be a hospice helper!! NO I'm going to learn a new skill today. The art of dyeing fabric, yarn etc. I can't wait, It's going to be a wild ride. Just hope I don't come home looking like a smurf :-)

Rainbow Baby Blanket

I made this almost like the pattern. The only difference is I left the corners scalloped.
It was a lot of fun to crochet.
